The equation that most follow is you give some and you take some. But in the music world, its a little bit harder to understand. Being a musician, you already have the giving part down. You are constantly giving others your music and letting them take a journey into your world. The taking part is the part that most people get confused about. Taking just sounds bad. You sound like a 4 year old who is stealing that toy from the other kid in class. Taking music is a completely different meaning. Musicians are copiers by nature. Nothing we have ever composed or played is our own; its all been done before. This for some is weird to think about but its not as weird as it seems... Think about it: There are 13 keys in a scale... Do you really think your combination of them is different? If you answered yes, you are wrong. Melodies get played over and over and OVER again. Just don't forget the flair and touch that you yourself put into it. :)
Case Closed.
Love,
Courtney Griggs
